There is consensus that reproduction is a necessary means in a complete and robust scientific knowledge acquisition process. Nevertheless, there is limited replication taking place, and a central reason for this is undoubtedly the lack of incentive in a highly competitive scientific system. With the format of a ‘Reproduction Challenge,’ we want to propose creating such an incentive within the VRST program. As an implementation, we envision a separate publication track, similar to demos and posters, perhaps comparable to a workshop (from a publication perspective) at other conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interactive Session: Reproduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the interactive session, we worked in dynamic groups to explore the concepts of replication, reproduction, and reproducibility, discussing what these terms mean for us and identifying the challenges we face in implementing them. Each group shared their insights, focusing on the importance of these principles in ensuring the reliability and credibility of scientific research. The group discussions and ideas were kicked off by having each participant select a photo from a random set of stock images. These images served as prompts to inspire thinking and to help initiate conversation within the groups, allowing participants to connect the visual stimuli to the themes of replication, reproduction, and reproducibility. The outcomes of the group discussions were captured visually in the form of a collage\/poster, which you can see below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
